How to Protect Your Pipes in an NVC Winter
New Vibe City winters can be harsh. Frozen pipes are one of the most common — and preventable — plumbing emergencies.
Before the First Freeze
Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses. Close the interior shutoff valve for outdoor faucets and open the outdoor faucet to drain.
- Insulate exposed pipes in basements, crawl spaces, and attics
- Seal air leaks near pipes with caulk or spray foam
- Know where your main shutoff valve is
During a Cold Snap
When temperatures drop below 20°F, let faucets on exterior walls drip slightly. Open cabinet doors under sinks to let warm air circulate. Keep your thermostat at 55°F or higher, even when away.
If a Pipe Freezes
Don't panic. Turn off the water. Apply gentle heat with a hair dryer or heating pad — never use an open flame. Call Marco if the pipe has burst or if you can't thaw it safely.
